Requiring renters insurance will keep both you and your tenants covered! In fact, it could save you both thousands of dollars in property damage, lawsuits, and even your own insurance deductible!

TurboTenant makes it easy for you to communicate the requirement to your tenants and document proof of their policy. You both will sleep well at night having the peace of mind that you're covered.

How do you require renters insurance?

Step 1: Log in to your TurboTenant account and go to your Account > Settings page.

Step 2: Go to the Advanced page within your Account > Settings view. On the Advanced page, select the "Turn on Requirement" option.

Step 3: Read about how renters insurance work, and select the option to require it.

What happens once you require renters insurance?

Once you turn on the requirement, TurboTenant makes it easy for you to actually get proof of their policy:

  1. When you convert an applicant to a tenant, we’ll send an email to the renter letting them know you require renters insurance as part of the lease.

  2. Your tenant is then prompted to provide proof of their policy within their TurboTenant account. They can choose any insurance provider they want, and simply upload their policy. They also have the option to purchase a policy for as low as $8/month through our partnership with SURE.

  3. Once they provide proof of insurance, we’ll send you an email letting you know you’re covered. When they purchase through SURE, you’ll also be notified if their policy changes, is canceled, or expires. The policy details is available within 24 hours of their purchase!

Turning the requirement off

If you no longer want the renters' insurance required setting, go to Account > Settings, click the Advanced page within your view, and select the "Turn Off Requirement" option within the Renters Insurance section. This will disable the requirement for all leases in your account.
