How Do I Stop Accepting Applications for My Rental?

Learn how to stop accepting applications for your property

Sometimes you may want to stop receiving new rental applications, whether your property is already filled or you’re taking a break. You can either stop marketing your listing completely or keep it visible but prevent new applications. Here’s how each option works and what to expect.

Option 1: Turn Off Marketing

Turning off marketing removes your listing from all third-party sites and stops new applications.

If you want your property to be fully hidden online, follow the steps in this article: How to Turn Off Online Marketing.

Once turned off, your listing will be removed from all marketing sites within about 48 hours.

Option 2: Stop Accepting Applications (Keep Your Listing Visible)

If you’d like renters to still view your property online but not submit applications, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Properties tab.

  2. Select your property (it must be actively published).

  3. Click Edit Listing.

  4. Scroll to the Apply Button section.

  5. Toggle Accepting Applications to Off.

After this change, renters will still see your listing, but they won’t be able to apply.

Turning Applications or Marketing Back On

  • To start marketing again, turn Online Marketing back On.

  • To begin accepting applications again, toggle Accepting Applications back On.

When you turn marketing back on, applications automatically reopen.

If you stop accepting applications, marketing will automatically turn off after about 48 hours.

Important Notes

  • Your property must be published to use these settings.

  • When Online Marketing is turned on, applications automatically open.

  • When application acceptance is turned off, marketing automatically stops after roughly 48 hours.
