How Do I Add a Tenant?

A guide for manually adding existing and new tenants to a lease profile.

If you have tenants from outside of TurboTenant who do not need to fill out an application, you can manually add them to your account and add them directly to a lease.


On the Web:

Step 1: Login to your TurboTenant account and click Tenants on your landlord dashboard

Step 2: Click Add New Tenant

Step 3: Enter the tenant's details such as their First Name, Last Name, and Lease. You'll also need to provide at least one form of contact information, such as their email address, phone number, or both. You'll have the option to select whether they receive the portal invitation by clicking on "Send invitation to tenant portal." You can always invite them later.

πŸ’‘ TurboTip: If your tenant will be signing a lease agreement, making payments, or has possibly had an account through TurboTenant before, you will want to add their email address when first adding them to your account. This will hep reduce friction when logging in and completing your next lease steps.


In the Mobile App:

Step 1: Log in to the mobile app and select "Renters" at the bottom of the screen

Step 2: Select the "Tenants" tab at the top of the page

Step 3: Select "Add New" at the top, or if you have no tenants added yet, select "Add Tenant"

Step 4: Enter your tenant's information

Step 5: After you have added in their contact information you will be prompted to add them to a lease profile.

You can create a new lease profile or add them to an existing lease profile!

Once you choose to add them to an existing lease profile or add them to a new lease profile, you are all done!

Q: Can I delay the portal invitation to my tenants?

A: Yes, you can choose to delay the tenant portal invitation. When adding a tenant, simply uncheck the box labeled "Send invitation to tenant portal." This is helpful if you're still setting things up and prefer your tenants not to receive the welcome email right away. You can send the invitation later when you're ready.
