Rent Payment Receipts
TurboTenant helps keep payment records organized by providing receipts for both online payments made through the platform and offline payments you record manually. Depending on how the payment was made, receipts may be sent automatically or manually during the payment recording process.
Online Payments Through TurboTenant
When a tenant makes a successful online payment through TurboTenant, a receipt is automatically emailed to them once the payment has fully processed. No additional action is required from you.
If you attempt to view the receipt while the payment is still processing, you may see a message stating: "Your tenant's payment is still processing." In this case, the receipt will become available once the payment has completed processing successfully.
Important: landlords on eligible paid plans may see the payment appear as deposited before the receipt becomes available. This is expected behavior while the payment is still finalizing in the system.
Offline Payments Recorded in TurboTenant
If your tenant pays outside of TurboTenant — such as with cash, check, money order, or another offline payment method, you can choose to email them a receipt when recording the payment.
While recording the offline payment, you’ll see an option on the Record Payment screen to send a receipt to the tenant.
If you select Yes, TurboTenant will automatically email the tenant a receipt that includes the payment details.
For offline payments recorded manually in TurboTenant, the receipt email is sent only if you choose to email a receipt while recording the payment.
How to Download a Payment Receipt
Landlords can download payment receipts directly from the Payments section of their TurboTenant account.
To access a receipt:
Go to the Payments tab in your landlord portal.
Select the Charges section.
Locate the charge marked as Paid.
Click to expand the charge details.
In the payment details section, click the Payment # link (for example, Payment #12345).
The receipt will automatically download as a PDF.
The downloaded receipt includes important payment information, such as the payment amount, payment date, tenant name, property information, and payment status.
Tenant Payment Receipt Emails
When a payment receipt is available, TurboTenant automatically emails the tenant a copy for their records. The receipt email includes important payment details, such as:
The property address
Payment amount
Payment date
Payment method
A breakdown of charges included in the payment
Links to print the receipt or view payment history
For online payments made through TurboTenant, the receipt email is sent once the payment has fully processed successfully.
If the payment is still processing, the receipt may not be immediately available. In some cases, landlords on eligible paid plans may see the payment appear as deposited before the receipt is generated. If you see a message stating "Your tenant's payment is still processing," the receipt will become available once processing is complete. Your tenant can access their receipt within their tenant portal in Settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why can’t I view or download a receipt yet?
A: If a payment is still processing, the receipt may not be available immediately. You may see a message stating: "Your tenant's payment is still processing."
Once the payment finishes processing successfully, the receipt will become available automatically.

Q: Does TurboTenant automatically send payment receipts to tenants?

Q: Are receipts sent for offline payments?
A: Offline payment receipts are only sent if you choose to email a receipt while recording the payment.
When recording a cash, check, or money order payment, select Yes when prompted to send a receipt to the tenant.

Q: Can tenants download receipts themselves?
A: Yes. Tenants can access their payment history and available receipts from their TurboTenant portal.
Q: Can I resend a payment receipt to my tenant?
A: At this time, tenants can access available receipts through their TurboTenant portal. If needed, landlords can also download the receipt PDF and share it directly with the tenant.
To download a receipt for your tenant:
Go to the Payments tab.
Select Charges.
Locate the paid charge.
Expand the charge details.
Click the Payment # link.
The receipt will download as a PDF.
Q: Where do tenants find their receipts in the portal?
A: Tenants can access their payment receipts directly in the Tenant Portal by going to Settings → Receipts. Receipts are only generated after a payment has fully processed — they will not appear while a payment is still pending.
Q: There are multiple tenants on my lease. Will all of them receive a receipt?
A: If there are multiple tenants on a lease, only the tenant who submitted the payment will receive the receipt email. If multiple tenants are listed on the same lease, co-tenants who did not make the payment will not automatically receive a copy.
Q: My tenant says they never received their receipt email. What should I check?
A: A few things to check:
Payment still processing: Receipts are only sent after the payment has fully processed. If the payment is recent, ask the tenant to check again in 1–2 business days.
Spam or junk folder: The receipt email may have been filtered. Ask the tenant to search their inbox for an email from TurboTenant.
Tenant portal: Receipts are also accessible in the Tenant Portal under Settings → Receipts — the tenant can view and print from there regardless of whether the email arrived.
Landlord download: If needed, landlords can download the receipt PDF from Payments → Charges and share it with the tenant directly.
Q: Are there receipts for payments made outside of TurboTenant (Zelle, cash, check)?
A: TurboTenant cannot automatically generate receipts for payments made outside the platform. However, when you record an offline payment in TurboTenant, you can choose to email the tenant a receipt at the time of recording. Select Yes when prompted on the Record Payment screen to send the receipt automatically.
