At TurboTenant, we believe in making the rental process faster and easier.
Our screening reports eliminate the normal timeframe you need to wait for an applicant to approve the request. You’ll get the information you need to make a decision sooner, therefore filling your vacancy faster.
Here's how to ensure your screening report access is activated in your TurboTenant account, and how to view a screening report.
How to activate access to screening reports:
Step 1 - Provide your mailing address and phone number within your account settings.
RentButter, our partner credit bureau, requires this information from all landlords in order to receive a prospective renter’s screening report.
To expedite your screening report access, enter your mailing address and phone number in your account settings as soon as you can.
Step 2 - Applicants approve the screening request on the last step of their application.
RentButter requires applicants to approve the request that verifies their identity. This step must be completed in order for you to receive their screening report (see why here).
If the applicant doesn’t approve the screening request as part of their application, you’ll need to wait for them to go through the verification process after requesting their screening report.
Applicants must log into their TurboTenant account and approve the screening request on their dashboard. Ask the applicant to check their account and ensure they have completed this task.
Step 3 - Select "See Screening Report"
If the applicant preemptively completes their identity verification, you will select "See Screening Report," and you will receive it within 2 days. Delays due to further verification checks by agencies like RentButter may prolong this timeline to 24–48 hours.
Didn’t receive an applicant's screening report?
Here are the reasons you may have to wait to receive their screening report:
Your mailing address and/or phone number were not entered into your TurboTenant account. You may enter them in Account Settings to avoid delay on your next report.
The applicant didn’t opt to preemptively approve the screening report and verify their identity as part of their rental application. This means they will need to do so after you request the report again.
The applicant’s identity verification expired. Credit Bureaus only allow for an applicant’s identity verification to last for 30 days. If you request their screening report 30 days after they have already verified their identity, you will have to go through this process again.
The landlord may not have sent the background check request successfully. Confirm with the landlord that the request was sent and request a screenshot for verification.
Technical issues may delay the report processing. Verify if the applicant has completed all steps, such as clicking 'Approve Request' in their TurboTenant account.8. If the 'View Screening Report' button appears but no data is shown, confirm if the applicant has paid the screening fee and completed the necessary authorization. The report will only generate after both steps are fulfilled.7. If the 'Screening Report' tab is not visible on a tenant’s profile, check under the 'Archived' view in the 'Tenant' tab. Unarchive the tenant if necessary and check again.6. If the option to pull a screening report is missing, clear your browser's cache and cookies, log into your TurboTenant account again, and verify the 'Applicants' section for the 'See Screening Report' option.
If the applicant's screening report is still pending, remind them to log into their TurboTenant account using the correct email address, locate the screening request on their dashboard, and click 'Approve Request' to complete the process. If the screening report is delayed or not visible, refresh the browser or log out and log back into your TurboTenant account to ensure the report displays properly.
Frozen Credit/Fraud Alerts
Frozen Credit/Fraud Alerts are a tool that any consumer can put in place to prevent their personal information from being used fraudulently for applications and opening lines of credit.
The screening report provided through our site contains the full information that could be matched with the applicant's name, SSN, and DOB as they listed it in the application.
If you have not yet received the screening report, you should request that the applicant upload a copy of their photo ID to their TurboTenant account. If they are the legitimate applicant, they should be able to easily provide this identification document that matches what they put in the application.
Once you have obtained this, you can review the screening report as you normally would to determine if this individual is right for the property.
