Before a Tenant Accesses Their TurboTenant Account
You can update a Renter's information all the way up until they log into their account for the first time. Once they log into their account, the landlord will lose access to make changes to their contact information.
Important: You can only edit a tenant’s information if they have not yet accessed their account.
If the tenant has not logged in, their status will show as “Invited to the Portal.”
To make edits, go to your Tenants tab, click the tenant’s name to open their profile, and look to the right of their name for the EDIT option.
Important: If you do not see the option to edit their contact information, it means the tenant has already accessed their account, and you are no longer able to edit their contact information.
Once you select EDIT, you can change/update an individual's name, email, and phone number.
After you make your changes, select Save. If you are updating the email for the renter, they will be resent an invite to their Tenant Portal automatically.
After a Tenant Accesses Their TurboTenant Account
If a tenant has already logged in to their account, you will no longer see the option to edit their information in their profile. At that point, only the tenant can update their own details from within their account.
💡 You can confirm whether a tenant has signed in by looking for the “Last Active” date shown in TurboTenant.
👉 Solution: In this case, the tenant can update their information directly from their account under Settings, or you can reach out to the TurboTenant Support Team for assistance.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: If the lease is in the signing process with an incorrect email, will this automatically be updated when the email is changed?
A: No, the email will not automatically update on a signature request that has already been sent out. To update the tenant's contact information on the lease for signatures, you'll first need to cancel the signing that is in progress and then edit the "People on the Lease" section of the lease builder to remove and re-add the tenant with the corrected information. Once updated, you'll need to send the document back out for signing.
Q: If my tenant updates their email, name, or phone number after the original lease is signed, will this reflect in any addendums we create?
A: If your tenant updates their contact information in the middle of the lease term, this will not be reflected in any addendums created. Lease Addendums use the contact information from the original lease agreement as this is the "entity" or "person" who signed the lease originally. If a tenant changes contact information during a lease term, we recommend creating a new lease at the end of the term to update this information on the lease.
Q: What happens if I receive an error when updating a contact's email or phone number?
A: This error occurs when the email and/or phone number is already in the system. In this case, you'll want to reach out to the TurboTenant Support Team for assistance.
