Change is inevitable- whether you have mistyped a tenant's contact information or if an established tenant has a change in contact information, updates may be needed. Within TurboTenant, there are a couple of different options available if you need to update a tenant's contact information, depending on if they have already accessed their account or not.

How to Update the Information in Their Tenant Profile:

You can update a Renter's information all the way up until they log into their account for the first time. Once they log into their account, the landlord will lose access to make changes to their contact information.

If the tenant has not yet accessed their account, they will show as "Invited to the Portal." You will want to go to your Tenants tab, click on the name of the tenant to open their profile, and to the right of their name will be an option to EDIT their information.

Once you select EDIT, you can change/update an individual's name, email, and phone number.

After you make your changes, select Save. If you are updating the email for the renter, they will be resent an invite to their Tenant Portal automatically.

If the Tenant Has Already Accessed Their TurboTenant Account:

If the tenant has already logged into their account and you do not see an option in their tenant profile to update their information, this means you won't be able to update the information from within your account. If your tenant has already signed in, they will show a "Last Active" date in TurboTenant.

In cases such as this, the tenant can update their information directly from their account in their Settings, or you can reach out to the TurboTenant Support Team so they can assist in updating the information for you.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: If the lease is in the signing process with an incorrect email, will this automatically be updated when the email is changed?

A: No, the email will not automatically update on a signature request that has already been sent out. To update the tenant's contact information on the lease for signatures, you'll first need to cancel the signing that is in progress and then edit the "People on the Lease" section of the lease builder to remove and re-add the tenant with the corrected information. Once updated, you'll need to send the document back out for signing.

Q: If my tenant updates their email, name, or phone number after the original lease is signed, will this reflect in any addendums we create?

A: If your tenant updates their contact information in the middle of the lease term, this will not be reflected in any addendums created. Lease Addendums use the contact information from the original lease agreement as this is the "entity" or "person" who signed the lease originally. If a tenant changes contact information during a lease term, we recommend creating a new lease at the end of the term to update this information on the lease.

Q: What happens if I receive an error when updating a contact's email or phone number?

A: This error occurs when the email and/or phone number is already in the system. In this case, you'll want to reach out to the TurboTenant Support Team for assistance.
