How Safe and Secure is TurboTenant?

Learn more about the security measures TurboTenant has in place to protect its users.

At TurboTenant, we prioritize the safety and protection of our users. We employ various automated measures to detect and prevent fraudulent activities, and our security team is always vigilant in monitoring accounts for any suspicious behavior. Furthermore, we ensure that all sensitive data on our platform is encrypted.

We also employ advanced encryption methods and privacy protocols to ensure all sensitive data is protected. This includes encrypting personal information upon submission and securely transmitting it only to authorized third-party services when necessary, such as for background checks.

Additionally, we have partnered with a top-notch payment processor, Stripe, to handle all payment transactions. If you'd like to read more about their security, you can do so here: https://stripe.com/docs/security/stripe.

Our application undergoes regular automated security scanning and manual penetration testing to ensure security and resilience against vulnerabilities. Here is an independent Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Web Encryption security report from Qualys SSL labs showing an A rating: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=rental.turbotenant.com&latest

We have developed our platform to safeguard our customers against potential threats by implementing security measures across all levels, ranging from physical to application layers. Our approach involves isolating customer applications and data to enhance protection. Additionally, we can swiftly deploy security updates without interrupting our customers' services or requiring their intervention.

Landlords are granted limited access to tenant-submitted documents such as IDs and paystubs within application packages. However, key personal data, including Social Security Numbers, remains encrypted and inaccessible to them.

To ensure the security and privacy of our applicants, we encrypt and securely transmit each applicant's SSN to the credit bureau, which is not viewable by our employees or users (the landlord). As an added measure of caution, all of our employees undergo background checks.

Social Security Numbers (SSNs) submitted through our platform are encrypted to an exceptionally high standard, ensuring they are neither visible nor accessible to landlords or TurboTenant employees. We do not store SSNs, eliminating any risk of unauthorized access. These numbers are only securely transmitted to RentButter for the purpose of generating tenant screening reports.

Specific Scenarios Addressing Security Concerns

TurboTenant enforces strict measures to ensure sensitive data remains protected, even in the event of fraudulent or restricted landlord accounts. For instance, Social Security Numbers and driver’s license details are safeguarded and inaccessible under all circumstances.

Common Questions Concerning SSN Fields in Applications

The SSN field in our applications is necessary to perform credit and background checks during the screening process. State-specific legal restrictions may sometimes prevent its display, especially in landlord-completed applications. In such cases, tenants are securely prompted to provide their SSN or ITIN only when required.
